I, of the Mask (Silverbird £1.99)

I of the Mask is essentially a 3D maze game. The player runs around a maze, searching for crystals that can either take them to a new maze, make them jump to a different section of the same maze or collect an android component. The components are only safe to collect once the player has zapped them three times with their laser.

The player needs a completed robot to escape the maze but each component must be collected in the correct order - starting with the feet and ending with the mask.

This was a re-release. I got the original out of the bargain bin at Lasky’s for about 99p.

I wanted to like it, but I just couldn’t. I enjoyed the isometric mazes and the 3D perspective – which were great for the Speccy – but I couldn’t really get into the game. It might have been because I was about 10 at the time and it went over my head, but it never really appealed to me.. I fired it up a couple of times, assumed that I got nowhere because I had no idea of what was going on, and eventually just threw it in the tape box.

What do you think?
