Duck! was Firebird’s third BBC game and was fifth in the production schedule, with the production number 00005.
The author was Melvyn Wright, who submitted Duck! in response to the original adverts that Telecomsoft published in the summer of 1984. Melvyn also wrote the loader and in-game music, which was a rendition of the classical piece “La Belle Helene Waltz” by Offenbach.
Upon receiving the game, Tony Rainbird phoned Melvyn Wright not only to sign up Duck! but to also commission Melvyn to write music for some of BT’s other fledging titles.
Melvyn coded the music for a number of Firebird titles on the BBC Micro, and he also wrote the cassette loaders (featuring music as the game loaded) for a number of other 8-bit formats. More information on this can be found in the Musicians and Bleepload sections.
